Housing Comm. – Enhancing Tenant Housing Security
Subcommittee meeting focusing on enhancing tenant housing security, including adoption of rent control/just cause eviction protections in Pasadena.
In our service area, a disproportionate number of African American houseolds rent their dwellings. Because landlords may:
- Charge any rent they wish,
- Raise rents as often as once every 30 to 60 days (after the initial written lease term has been reached) and/or
- Evict tenants for no reason,
tenants are extremely insecure in their housing. Because so many families/households of color have been and are subject to permanent displacement, the Committee will be focusing on enhancing housing security for tenant households.
